Sandbox code execution via Array.sort type confusion

Published Sep 3, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026

Type confusion in V8 in Google Chrome before 152.0.7977.82 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the sandbox via crafted HTML. Inlined Array.prototype.sort accepts mixed elements kinds, then copies saved HeapObjects into a Smi-elements array after its callback narrows the receiver. A user must load attacker-controlled HTML; successful exploitation runs code within Chrome's sandbox rather than escaping it.
