CVE-2026-85013Public exploit

Local command execution via Bash completion candidates

Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026

Command injection in Environment Modules allows local users to execute arbitrary commands through malicious Bash-completion candidates. The _module_comgen_words_and_files() helper passes unfiltered names from MODULEPATH to compgen -W, whose word-list parsing evaluates shell metacharacters. Exploitation requires write access to a visible module path, Bash completion for module or ml, and a victim who triggers completion.
