Unauthenticated settings modification via token type juggling
Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026
Authorization bypass in HelpfulCrowd Product Reviews 1.2.9 and earlier allows remote attackers to modify stored plugin settings. The helpfulcrowd_validate_token() function loosely compares the JSON token value with a base64-encoded secret, so boolean true passes the check and reaches an unrestricted REST settings handler. No authentication or user interaction is required; the endpoint writes attacker-chosen key-value pairs into helpfulcrowd_options, allowing full modification of the plugin configuration.
