Configuration overwrite via transient field deserialization

Published Sep 2, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026

Unsafe deserialization in Jenkins 2.579 and earlier and LTS 2.568.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to overwrite transient fields. Jenkins reads transient Java fields from submitted configuration XML for backward compatibility, while affected releases cannot exclude selected transient fields from that input path. Exploitation requires permission to submit configuration updates, and the resulting impact depends on how each overwritten field is used.
