Application crash via overflowing tile range check
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Struktur AG libheif 1.19.0 through 1.23.2 allows remote attackers to crash tile-processing applications via crafted HEIF files. The no-icef full-item branch of unc_decoder::get_compressed_image_data_uncompressed() adds attacker-controlled offsets and lengths before bounds checking, allowing uint64_t wraparound to pass an invalid pointer and huge length to memcpy(). Exploitation requires an application to decode a valid high-index advertised tile through the public tile API; whole-image decoding is not shown to reach the crashing path.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
