Local file-ownership changes via unvalidated NAS paths
Published Sep 29, 2026 · Updated Sep 29, 2026
File ownership manipulation in IBM i 7.3 through 7.6 allows local users to change ownership of arbitrary files through Network Authentication Service. The service runs with excessive permissions and fails to validate an attacker-controlled file path before changing file ownership. An authenticated local account is required; IBM has not identified the affected routine or disclosed a remote path to the ownership operation.
