Cross-site scripting via incomplete foreignObject sanitization
Published Sep 1, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026
Cross-site scripting in affected SVGO releases allows remote attackers to execute script through an optimized, crafted SVG file. The opt-in removeScripts plugin deletes SVG and XHTML script elements but leaves executable HTML inside foreignObject, including event handlers, srcdoc content, and executable action, data, formaction, href, and src URLs. Exploitation requires an application to rely on that plugin as its only sanitizer and serve attacker-controlled output in an active browser context, allowing script to read origin data, alter content, or act as the viewer.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=>= 1.0.0, < 2.8.4
- Affected versionversion=>= 3.0.0, < 3.3.5
