Credential disclosure and data poisoning via plaintext S3
Published Sep 1, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026
Cleartext transmission in Scrapy before 2.17.0 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read or alter signed S3 traffic. S3DownloadHandler rewrites an s3:// bucket and key as an HTTP endpoint unless is_secure is explicitly enabled, then signs and sends the request with AWS credentials. Use of s3:// requests with configured AWS credentials is required; exposure includes authorization material and object data, while response tampering can poison crawl output.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
