Unauthenticated crash via unchecked task type assertion
Published Oct 8, 2026 · Updated Oct 8, 2026
IBM Guardium Data Protection 12.2.2 allows remote attackers to crash its edge-controller via malformed gRPC task data. Task processing performs an unchecked type assertion on supplied data, terminating the process when malformed input reaches it. Exploitation requires network access to the gRPC service but no authentication or user interaction; the documented consequence is process termination, not appliance reboot.
