Policy bypass via incomplete exception matching
Published Sep 1, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026
Policy bypass in Kyverno 1.9.0 through 1.12.7 allows remote authenticated users to evade enforced admission rules with crafted resource names. The exception selector returns only one matching PolicyException instead of all matches, causing evaluation to apply the wrong exception when multiple patterns match. Resource-creation access and two applicable exceptions are required; successful exploitation bypasses controls such as a hostPath-volume prohibition.
