CVE-2026-8398Known exploitationNetwork attack vector

Command execution via trojanized startup binaries

Published May 15, 2026 · Updated May 15, 2026

Embedded malicious code in AVB Disc Soft DAEMON Tools Lite 12.5.0.2421 through 12.5.0.2434 allows attackers to execute commands. The startup code in DTHelper.exe, DiscSoftBusServiceLite.exe, and DTShellHlp.exe starts a thread that sends the host name to a lookalike command server and executes returned shell commands through cmd.exe. Installing an affected free package is sufficient; the backdoor profiles Windows hosts and selectively downloads and runs additional payloads.
