Local root code execution via attacker-controlled fail2ban socket
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Local privilege escalation in Netdata Agent before 2.10.4 allows local users in the netdata account to execute arbitrary code as root. The setuid-root ndsudo helper accepts a caller-controlled fail2ban socket path, causing root fail2ban-client to unpickle data returned by a malicious UNIX socket. Exploitation requires local access as the low-privileged netdata service account and fail2ban-client on the Linux host; successful exploitation grants root code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
