Approval-state tampering via omitted etag validation
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Improper input validation in Nextcloud Approval 1.0.0 through 3.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to approve unreviewed file states. The approve/reject endpoint checks the current file etag only when a nonempty etag parameter is supplied, so removing the field bypasses the freshness comparison. Exploitation requires an authenticated approver session and the ability to alter its request, and it can approve or reject content changed after review.
