Policy hijacking via unescaped header placeholders

Published Sep 2, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026

JSON template injection in Eclipse Ditto 1.3.0 through 3.9.6 allows remote authenticated users to override a new digital twin's policy. The ImplicitThingCreationMessageMapper inserts raw header placeholders into a JSON template before parsing, so a quote can inject an inline _policy object. Exploitation requires the non-default mapper, an attacker-controlled reflected header, publishing access, and permission for the connection subject to create policies.
