TOTP secret disclosure via unrestricted external messages

Published Aug 31, 2026 · Updated Sep 2, 2026

Information disclosure in Extension.vn 2FA Authenticator 1.0.0.2 allows local users to read stored TOTP secrets via external messages. The background service worker routes get_data_storage requests from chrome.runtime.onMessageExternal into its shared storage handler without validating sender.id against an allowlist. Exploitation requires a malicious co-installed extension in the same browser profile and exposes secrets that can generate valid one-time codes.
