AMF crash via unhandled ngapIeType assertion
Published Aug 30, 2026 · Updated Aug 30, 2026
Denial of service in the Open5GS AMF N1-N2 Message Handler through 2.7.7 allows remote authenticated users to crash the AMF. The amf_namf_comm_handle_n1_n2_message_transfer function accepts a legal but unimplemented ngapIeType value and fatally asserts instead of rejecting the request. Exploitation requires AMF SBI access plus a live UE SUPI and PDU-session ID, and it terminates the AMF process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
