Two-factor authentication bypass via grace-period reset

Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026

Authorization bypass in Really Simple Security before 9.8.2 allows remote authenticated users to defer enforced two-factor authentication. The profile-page update handler accepts a POST request without the 2FA field, skips nonce verification, and calls delete_two_fa_meta() to reset the grace-period anchor. A low-privileged account subject to mandatory 2FA can repeat the request each login cycle and remain within the grace period indefinitely.
