AtomPub authority takeover via replayed WSSE digest

Published Sep 28, 2026 · Updated Sep 28, 2026

Authentication bypass in Apache Roller 6.1.5 allows attackers to assume a victim's AtomPub authority by replaying a captured WSSE digest header. RollerAtomHandler.authenticateWSSE verifies the digest against the stored password but does not check nonce reuse or timestamp freshness. Exploitation requires a captured valid header and an installation with the non-default AtomPub API, WSSE authentication, and plaintext-compatible password storage.
