Unauthenticated service crash via read concern assertion
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
DoS in MongoDB Server 7.0.0 through 7.0.40, 8.0.0 through 8.0.29, and 8.3.0 through 8.3.8 allows remote attackers to crash replica members. Read concern processing reaches an assertion whose internal-state assumptions do not hold for every replica set member configuration. The request needs no authentication, but only the affected member process terminates; no data read or write impact is reported.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <7.0.41

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
