Persistent server crash via incompatible collection configuration
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Type confusion in MongoDB Server 8.3.0 through 8.3.8 allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod via collection options. The WiredTiger integration accepts an incompatible custom storage value and later interprets stored data using the wrong expected type. The trigger requires readWrite privileges, and the malformed metadata survives restarts so ordinary service recovery does not restore availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
