Unauthenticated stored XSS via unsanitized chat messages
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Stored XSS in Jeff Starr Simple Ajax Chat 20260811 and earlier allows remote attackers to run scripts in visitors' browsers via chat messages. The public submission nonce permits unauthenticated posting, while insufficient message sanitization and output escaping persistently render attacker-controlled markup. A visitor must load a page containing the chat; the script then runs in that visitor's WordPress origin, including for administrators.
