CVE-2026-8177Network attack vector

Process crash via truncated UTF-8 node names

Published May 10, 2026 · Updated May 10, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in XML::LibXML 2.0210 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash Perl processes via truncated UTF-8 node names. The domParseChar function reads expected continuation bytes beyond a string's NUL terminator, and LibXML_test_node_name advances by the invalid reported length. Reachability requires an application to pass attacker-controlled element or attribute names into a DOM node-name method; returned data does not expose adjacent memory, so the grounded consequence is a process crash.
