CVE-2026-81720Hinoki check available

Host crash via unbounded Argon2 memory cost

Published Aug 27, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Uncontrolled resource consumption in OpenSSL Encrypt before 1.4.9 allows local users to crash the host via a crafted identity file. PasswordProtectionConfig.from_dict accepts an unbounded memory_cost from the file's protection block, and _derive_key passes it to Argon2 before AEAD authentication. Exploitation requires write access to the local identity store or loading an attacker-authored identity and can exhaust host memory during identity unlock.
