Fingerprint verification bypass via terminal escape injection
Published Aug 27, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026
ANSI escape injection in OpenSSL Encrypt before 1.4.9 allows remote attackers to forge identity fingerprint displays via crafted bundles. Identity.import_public accepts an imported document's email field without control-character validation, and CLI identity views print it directly above the genuine fingerprint. Delivery through contact exchange or a keyserver response is sufficient to replace the displayed fingerprint and undermine out-of-band key verification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
