CVE-2026-81694Hinoki check available

Forged integrity verdicts via unsanitized drive filenames

Published Aug 27, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Output injection in OpenSSL Encrypt 1.4.8 and earlier allows attackers to forge verify-usb verdicts through crafted drive filenames. The command prints raw filenames found outside the AES-GCM-authenticated manifest, so cursor-movement and erase-line bytes can repaint a FAILED result as PASSED. A local user must run verify-usb against attacker-writable drive data and trust its terminal display; the authenticated manifest itself is not altered.
