Local invalid memory read via SLIP teardown race
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel SLIP driver allows local users to trigger an invalid memory read by racing line-discipline teardown. sl_sync retains a bare slip_devs entry while netdev_run_todo clears and frees the same net_device outside the RTNL critical section. The trigger requires concurrent local PTY opens, N_SLIP selection, and closes; the published KASAN trace demonstrates a one-byte read from freed kernel memory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
