Local system crash via MCTP device race
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel MCTP routing code in 7.1 allows local users to crash the system through AF_MCTP packet handling. mctp_route_lookup() reads rt->dev->addrs[0] after concurrent device teardown frees the address array because it holds no device reference. An unprivileged AF_MCTP user needs no CAP_NET_RAW, and a successful race causes invalid kernel memory access and a system crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
