Service disruption via leaked SMC socket reference
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Resource leak in net/smc in affected Linux kernel versions allows attackers to block network namespace teardown during SMC link failover. The smc_switch_conns() early error path returns after smc_cdc_get_free_slot() fails without matching sock_hold() with sock_put(). The path requires target-link loss or concurrent connection termination during failover; retained sockets and buffers persist indefinitely.
