CVE-2026-80963

Kernel crash via unchecked per-CPU allocation failure

Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in Linux dm-stats allows attackers to crash the kernel when a per-CPU allocation fails during statistics creation. On the error path in dm_stats_create(), dm_stat_free() dereferences s->stat_percpu[cpu] for CPUs whose allocation returned NULL. The fault is reachable only while creating device-mapper statistics under memory pressure, and a hit interrupts the entire host.
