Kernel memory corruption via unchecked cache geometry
Published Sep 11, 2026 · Updated Sep 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in Linux kernel dm-pcache 6.18 allows local users with CAP_SYS_ADMIN to read and write kernel memory. cache_segs_init trusts cache_info->n_segs as an iteration bound, while get_seg_id trusts on-media identifiers before indexing cache->segments[]. Exploitation requires a privileged Device-Mapper table load using attacker-controlled cache-device metadata, and the documented consequence is an out-of-bounds kernel read and write.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
