CVE-2026-80916

Coverage-state corruption via per-CPU softirq storage

Published Sep 9, 2026 · Updated Sep 9, 2026

Race condition in KCOV in Linux allows attackers to corrupt kernel coverage state during remote coverage sessions on PREEMPT_RT kernels. Nested softirq preemption lets a higher-priority softirq thread overwrite temporary remote-KCOV state stored in a shared per-CPU area. Triggering requires CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT, CONFIG_KCOV, an active remote KCOV session, and nested softirq preemption; required privileges are undisclosed.
