Kernel memory exhaustion via CPU-scaled LZMA pool

Resource exhaustion in affected Linux kernels allows attackers to pin vmalloc memory through a mounted EROFS image using LZMA. The EROFS LZMA configuration loader sizes a module-global decoder pool from the possible CPU count when lzma_streams is unset, then preallocates an image-selected dictionary of up to 8 MiB for every stream. The system must mount the image; on high-CPU hosts, the allocation persists until the EROFS module is unloaded and can consume hundreds of MiB.
