Administrator account takeover via AJAX attribute injection
Published Jun 17, 2026 · Updated Jun 17, 2026
Reflected XSS in weDevs weMail before 2.1.3 allows remote attackers to execute script in authenticated users' browsers via a crafted URL. The wemail_preview AJAX handler sanitizes form_id as text but inserts it unescaped into an id attribute, allowing quote breakout and event-handler injection. An attacker must induce a logged-in administrator to open the URL and trigger the handler; the script can use the exposed wp_rest nonce to create an administrator account.
