System instability via unreserved ECC carveouts
Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026
Memory reservation error in Linux 6.19 allows attackers to destabilize Renesas Ironhide systems via high DRAM utilization. The Ironhide device tree fails to reserve DBSC5 inline-ECC carveouts and adjacent unprotected DRAM, so the kernel allocator can overwrite controller-owned memory. Exposure requires Renesas Ironhide hardware with the DBSC5 controller and enough memory pressure to allocate from those regions; the documented consequence is system instability.
