Out-of-bounds access via malformed AH6 routing header
Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in affected Linux kernel branches allows local users to trigger an oversized memmove via raw IPv6 HDRINCL packets. In net/ipv6/ah6.c, ipv6_rearrange_rthdr() trusts segments_left despite a smaller hdrlen, shifts an address pointer backward, and copies 4,064 bytes. Creating the trigger requires raw-socket privileges; the public record establishes an out-of-bounds kernel access but does not specify a crash, disclosure, or code execution.
