Kernel memory corruption via invalid LS IOD free
Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026
Invalid free in affected Linux kernel nvmet-fc revisions allows local users to corrupt kernel memory during target-port creation. nvmet_fc_alloc_ls_iodlist() advances the iod pointer while building the LS IOD array, then its unwind path decrements that pointer past the allocation base and passes it to kfree after a request-buffer allocation or response-buffer DMA mapping failure. Reachability requires privileged nvmet-fc target configuration and the relevant failure during target-port creation; the demonstrated result is a KASAN-detected invalid free.
