Remote denial of service via unbounded SGL allocation
Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux nvmet-tcp target allows remote attackers to exhaust kernel memory through a crafted write command. nvmet_tcp_map_data() passes an unchecked, host-controlled non-inline SGL length of up to 4 GiB to sgl_alloc() before transfer-length validation. A peer that can reach the target portal and complete a Fabrics connection needs no mandatory default authentication and can leave each allocation resident by withholding the requested data.
