CVE-2026-80785Hinoki check available

Use-after-free via unlocked fbdev mode access

Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026

Use-after-free in Linux kernel fbdev before 7.1.11 allows local users to trigger freed-memory access via concurrent sysfs mode operations. The show_mode(), show_modes(), and store_mode() handlers access fb_info mode data without lock_fb_info() while store_modes() can replace and free the modelist. Access to an instantiated framebuffer's sysfs mode attributes is required, and the race can dereference an old entry or retain a stale freed pointer.
