CVE-2026-80780Hinoki check available

Kernel memory corruption via empty HID input list

Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux 6.6.88 through 6.6.155 allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory via a USB device. An empty hid->inputs list makes hid_pidff_init_with_quirks() treat the list head as hid_input and load an unrelated field as input_dev, so force-feedback setup writes through a type-confused pointer. A crafted HID report descriptor with only a PID application collection reaches the flaw during hotplug probe; inserting the device is sufficient, with no login or attacker software required.
