Local kernel crash via force-feedback initialization race
Published Sep 4, 2026 · Updated Sep 4, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux 5.16 allows local users to crash the kernel through a concurrent EVIOCSFF request. joycon_input_create() registers the input device before joycon_config_rumble() installs the FF_RUMBLE capability and dev->ff callbacks, exposing a partially initialized device. The race requires local access to a compatible Nintendo HID device; winning it dereferences the unset force-feedback pointer and interrupts the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
