Kernel crash via unchecked phantom-plane allocation
Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026
Null-pointer dereference in the AMD display DML2.1 code in Linux 6.11 allows attackers to crash the kernel during display validation. dml21_handle_phantom_streams_planes continues after dml21_add_phantom_plane fails to allocate a plane, leaving a null object for later use. Reachability requires the affected AMD display path and a phantom-plane allocation failure; the documented consequence is a kernel segfault.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
