CVE-2026-80700

Out-of-bounds memory access via unchecked BO copy bounds

Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026

Out-of-bounds memory access in vmw_external_bo_copy in Linux allows local users to corrupt memory via a crafted atomic display commit. Equal-stride copies subtract unchecked offsets and multiply a 32-bit stride by height, while unequal-stride copies perform row-by-row memcpy operations without checking either buffer endpoint. Reachability requires a configured vmwgfx CRTC, an imported dma-buf framebuffer, and attacker-controlled STDU or SOU plane state; the demonstrated consequence is access beyond a mapped buffer object.
