Out-of-bounds read via malformed NTFS attribute
Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the NTFS driver in Linux 7.1 allows attackers to trigger invalid kernel memory reads via a crafted NTFS image. ntfs_external_attr_find() dereferences the next attribute-list entry's lowest_vcn and name after checks that do not validate the full fixed header, alignment, or name bounds. Exploitation requires the crafted filesystem to be mounted and its inode read; the disclosed consequence is a slab read beyond the attribute-list buffer.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
