Command-processing hang via recursive mutex acquisition
Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026
Deadlock in the Linux vub300 MMC driver allows attackers to hang command processing when a command response times out during USB reset. The timeout path calls usb_reset_device() while vub300_cmndwork_thread() still holds cmd_mutex, and vub300_pre_reset() recursively acquires that mutex. Reachability requires an active VUB300 command and a response timeout; the demonstrated consequence is a deadlocked driver workqueue rather than code execution or data access.
