CVE-2026-80598

Out-of-bounds read via unchecked decompression table index

Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel ntfs3 allows local users to trigger memory access past a table via corrupted compressed NTFS data. In decompress_chunk within fs/ntfs3/lznt.c, the index-correction loop increments its index and reads s_max_off without first enforcing the array bound. The path requires ntfs3 to process invalid LZNT-compressed data from a crafted filesystem image; published material establishes a kernel memory fault but not code execution.
