Partial xattr listing via late bounds validation
Published Aug 28, 2026 · Updated Aug 28, 2026
Improper validation in Linux kernel f2fs_listxattr() allows attackers to receive a successful partial xattr list from corrupted storage. The function calls f2fs_xattr_prefix() with entry->e_name_index before confirming that the entry fits within valid xattr storage, then breaks without setting -EFSCORRUPTED. Reachability requires an F2FS inode containing an out-of-bounds xattr entry; the upstream advisory publishes no consequence beyond the misleading partial success.
