CVE-2026-80559

Local system crash via premature input registration

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Race condition in the sur40 input driver in affected Linux kernels allows local users to crash the system by opening a new input device. sur40_probe() exposes the device before the V4L2 video device and vb2_queue are initialized, so sur40_poll() accesses incomplete queue state; a later probe failure also frees a registered device instead of unregistering it. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a SUR40 device being probed during boot or USB hotplug, and successful triggering can panic the kernel or corrupt input-core state.
