CVE-2026-80540

Local GPU memory corruption via width-based buffer sizing

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the Linux kernel allows local users with AMDGPU render-node access to read or corrupt GPU-mapped memory. The amdgpu_uvd_cs_msg_decode path calculates the minimum decode buffer from width rather than pitch and fails to cap pitch at 4096, allowing undersized buffers to pass validation. Exploitation requires unprivileged access to a local DRM render node and can disclose or corrupt adjacent GPU-mapped memory, hang or reset the GPU, or panic the kernel.
