CVE-2026-80535

Local denial of service via recursive inode locking

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026

Multiple locking in XFS directory tree repair in affected Linux kernels allows local users to cause a denial of service. The deletion path in fs/xfs/scrub/dirtree_repair.c takes I/O and inode locks for sc->ip and dp even when both references identify the same inode. The path is reached when the dirtree scrubber deletes a detected self-referential directory, and the resulting deadlock can hang affected kernel work.
