CVE-2026-80534

Quota-operation hangs via leaked XFS inode lock

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026

Improper locking in the Linux kernel XFS quota code allows local users to hang subsequent quota operations through an extent-read error. In xfs_dq_get_next_id(), failure of xfs_iread_extents() returns without releasing the quota inode ILOCK held by the caller. Reachability requires an XFS filesystem with quotas enabled, access to the local quota-control path, and the extent-loading error condition; the reported consequence is limited to XFS quota management.
